Myanmar considered to be the only country who mannaged to maintain the original "Dhamma" of the budha - the Vipassana, in its pure original form.

 

at the late 60's the guru S.N.Goenka, a Myanmar resident, had started to re-spread this ancient knowledge arround the world.

 

Meditation and budhist moral codes are well embeded in the Myanmar culture until today, and is considered to be an important ritual of the locals.

most Burmese will be at a certain point in their life in a budhist monestary in order to improve their meditation skills. meditation is an important part of the Burmese people daily routine.

 

due to the great importance attributed to meditation by the Burmese people, the Burmese goverment enable foreigners to take an active part in "Dhamma" learning by enabling a longer period of visa for foreigners who arrive to Myanmar in order to learn how to meditate. while regular tourist visa to Myanmar is limited to 28 days, meditation visa is for 3 months.
